Zimbabwe: Harare residents react to sacking of Mugabe as ZANU-PF leader

Spirits were high among some in Harare following the sacking of Robert Mugabe as head of the ruling ZANU-PF party on Sunday. People on the street reflected on the significance of the event and expressed their satisfaction to various degrees. One woman joyfully stated that “we’ve been able to re-write Zimbabwean history for our children,” while one man called the sacking of Mugabe “a new chapter... Еще.” The unity of the Zimbabwean people was emphasised, as well as the lack of violence and «bloodshed» in the ending of Mugabe's leadership of the party. The party appointed former Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who was fired by Mugabe two weeks ago, to take his place in the interim.
