Yemen: UNICEF Representative for Yemen urges to stop grave violations against children

UNICEF Representative for Yemen, Meritxel Relano, called for an immediate peace settlement to put an end to the «grave violations» against Yemeni children, in a Skype interview, speaking from Sanaa, Tuesday. According to Relano, since the onset of the conflict, «1,721 children have been killed and almost 3,000 have been maimed or severely injured.» She went on to stress that «we really need to... Еще put a stop on the grave violations against children in the country» and that «the only way» to do it is to implement a peace agreement, negotiated between «all the parties in the conflict» and the «alliances of those parties in the conflict.» The Saudi-led coalition forces launched an offensive on Yemen in 2015 in support of troops loyal to former president Ali Abdullah Saleh. The conflict has led to a humanitarian disaster in the country. On August 25, at least 14 civilians, including six children, were reportedly killed after Saudi-led airstrikes hit the residential area of Fag Atan, in southern Sanaa.
