Weightlifting champ camp in Jordan gives young refugee girls a boost

An Olympic weightlifting school inside Jordan's Al Baqaa refugee camp has been set up to discover future athletes for the Jordan national Olympic team, as well as to empower girls and provide them with new opportunities. The centre hosts 11 boys and 14 girls, with five of them already participating in youth national weightlifting teams. Sara, one of the girls at the training centre, said, «I... Еще want to become the world champion and prove that women can do any sport.» Some of the successes achieved by the Champ Camp attendees include 13 medals secured at Jordan’s first ever Junior Weightlifting tournament in April 2018. Three of the Champ Camp girls also won medals in the West Asian Olympic Weightlifting tournament in October 2017; and young Zaid Al Jabre was selected by the national team that took part in qualification tournaments for the Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires 2018.
