Venezuelan teacher creates virtual classroom to continue teaching amid coronavirus pandemic

History and geography teacher at the San Ignacio School in Caracas, Jesus Lara, had an ingenious idea to create a classroom on the Habbo virtual platform that could let him continue teaching his students during the COVID-19 pandemic quarantine, as footage filmed on Friday shows. Lara explained that when he was a teenager, he used to play on the platform, which inspired his idea. «When they... Еще announced the quarantine, I said, 'How do I get to the kids?' Then, I remembered that when I was a teenager, when I was their age in high school, I was 15-16, I used to play Habbo,» he said. He added that the students welcomed the idea and that it helps make a subject like history, which he believes is often perceived as «boring,» more «attractive.» He explained that he didn't want to be «the teacher who tells boring tales, lame, I don't want to be that teacher. I want to transform that learning process and make them value the history of the country.» Venezuela declared a health emergency on March 12, when no cases of COVID-19 had yet been reported. Since then, the country has registered 335 cases of the coronavirus and 10 deaths, according to the Venezuelan Ministry of Health.
