The Venezuelan government deployed the Bolivarian National Armed Force (FANB), the Bolivarian National Police (PNB), and state and municipal police forces to ensure compliance with the «radical quarantine» amid the coronavirus pandemic, Caracas, Monday.
According to Venezuelan government spokesman Jorge Rodriguez, the measures include the confinement and the installation of special containment barriers in the states of the Capital District, Bolivar, Apure, Tachira, Zulia, La Guaira, Aragua, Miranda, Lara, and Trujillo. Only the food, health, medicine distribution, electricity, gas, and telecommunications sectors can operate in these places.
Police and army soldiers controlling traffic could be seen in Caracas, as well as closed subway stations.
According to reports, the quarantine also means the suspension of the services of the Caracas Metro, the Los Teques Metro, and the railway to Valles del Tuy in the capital region.
To date, Venezuela has recorded 3,917 cases of COVID-19 and 33 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University.
