Health workers at the University Hospital of Maracaibo continue their fight against the coronavirus. On Sunday, they were seen in action in the section of the facility dedicated to treating COVID-19 patients, in the city that is the most affected by the pandemic in Venezuela.
An area was set up for COVID-19 patients, where a group of Cuban health workers help in the battle against the pandemic.
«We currently [have] approximately 200, 250 patients, in total. Among those hospitalised with mild pneumonia, those who are asymptomatic and those who are severe,» explained Eudo Sumalabe, head of Emergency and Critical Medicine at the University Hospital of Maracaibo.
With regard to the most serious cases, he said they have 18 intensive care beds with respirators, 14 of which are currently occupied.
According to reports, about a quarter of the cases of coronavirus and almost half of the deaths from the virus are concentrated in Maracaibo.
To date, Venezuela has recorded 11,891 cases of COVID-19 and 112 deaths, according to data collected by Johns Hopkins University.
