Venezuela's new legislative body Constituent Assembly assumed the power to pass laws at its first session in Caracas on Friday. Secretary of Venezuelan Constituent Assembly Elvis Amoroso read out the first decree, «To assume the powers to legislate on matters directly aimed at ensuring the preservation of peace, security, sovereignty, the socioeconomic and financial system, the ends of the... Еще State, and the preeminence of the rights of Venezuelans.» During the session, the President of Constituent Assembly slammed opposition politicians for their absence from the session. “They cannot prevent the decisions that this sovereign and plenipotentiary National Constituent Assembly adopts in order to preserve the highest aims of the State,» Rodriguez said. Congress members who do not recognise the Assembly’s existence refused to attend the session. The members of the sub-regional trade bloc Mercosur said in a note they would not recognise the assembly's decision.
