US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo hold talks with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoev and Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov in Tashkent on Monday.
According to a statement by Mirziyoev's office, Pompeo and the president discussed Washington’s support for Uzbekistan’s ascension into the World Trade Organisation, among other issues.
On his official Twitter account the US diplomat highlighted... Еще Mirziyoev’s “leadership in forging the strategic partnership” between the two countries. Pompeo also praised his efforts aimed at “more free and open society with a more accountable government.”
Later on Monday Pompeo took part in the ‘C5+1’ meeting with his counterparts from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. The parties discussed “the local issues, including Afghanistan situation,” the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Pompeo’s Uzbekistan visit finished his four-country Eastern Europe and Central Asia tour, during which he also stopped in Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan.
