USA: West Virginia locals protest arrival of Pence for GOP winter retreat

Locals gathered by the entrance of Greenbrier Valley Airport to protest against US Vice President Mike Pence arriving to the annual winter retreat of the House Republican Party, on Wednesday in West Virginia. People held banners reading «Equality is patriotic», «We rise or fall as one», and chanted the slogan «Tell me what democracy looks like. This is what democracy looks like,» amongst others... Еще. One of the event organisers Hanno Kirk explained that the protesters are tired of «divisive politics» so they decided to come out and convey their dissatisfaction to the Republican Party leadership upon its arrival in West Virginia. The protesters expressed concerns over environmental protection, as one demonstrator named Debbie Natur stated, «We need clean water, we need good healthcare because the current water situation is making people sick.» The state of West Virginia is also in the path of the Mountain Valley natural gas pipeline, which is currently in the construction stages. The planned pipeline brings great concern to environmentalists in the area.
