US Attorney General Jeff Sessions said that the number of cases of classified leaks under the Trump administration had «exploded» in a briefing at the Department of Justice in Washington DC, Friday. Sessions was joined by Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats.
Sessions said that the Trump administration had «received nearly as many criminal referrals involving unauthorised disclosures of... Еще classified information as we received in the previous three years combined.” He stated, «we’ve already charged four people with unlawfully disclosing classified material or with concealing contacts with federal officers.»
In regards to media leaks, the Attorney General said the department of justice is «reviewing policies affecting media subpoenas» and although they respect the role the press plays, said their power is not «unlimited.»
The Attorney General gave a clear message to America's intelligence community, saying: «the department for justice is open for business.»
Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats said the disclosures had resulted in a major threat to national security. He warned any leakers, «we will find you, we will investigate you, we will prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law, and you will not be happy with the result.»
President Donald Trump has repeatedly said that recent leaks pose a threat to the security of the country.
