Senior officials at the State Department have spoken with Saudi officials through diplomatic channels about the matter. We call on the government of Saudi Arabia to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation,» Nauert said. Khashoggi was last seen entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2 to prepare documents for his forthcoming marriage. His fiancée claimed she waited outside for him for 11 hours, but he did not return. Turkish officials believe the Saudi journalist and dissident may have been murdered.
