USA: US Senate passes sweeping tax overhaul

The United States Senate has approved the most drastic overhaul of the US tax code in more than 30 years in Washington DC on Wednesday, handing President Donald Trump his first major legislative victory of 2017. Presided by Vice President Mike Pence, the Senate voted 58-41 in favour of a $1.5 trillion tax bill, which would include permanent tax breaks for corporations, new breaks for private... Еще businesses and temporary tax cuts for individuals. Shouts of protest were heard from the chamber gallery when Pence announced the voting results. Once ratified, the legislation will entail some of the most substantial changes to the US tax code since 1986. The bill was approved by the House earlier on Tuesday, but technical changes were made to it in the Senate, and it will have to be re-voted by the House on Wednesday, where it is expected to pass again.
