USA: UN Special Rapporteur admits 'not enough financial resources' to fight poverty

A forum regarding the Californian homelessness crisis saw a series of panelists speak to the UN Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights, Professor Philip Alston in San Francisco on Wednesday. During an interview Alston said that homelessness is a growing problem and «the financial resources are not there to meet the needs». He also added that the UN relies «very heavily on civil... Еще society» noting that «it not just directed towards a single government». It comes as part of Alston’s tour of American cities in an attempt to address extreme levels of poverty with guidelines on how to alleviate the issue. Half a dozen local humanitarian organisations briefed Alston on the multifaceted crisis of homelessness and a lack of housing in the Bay Area.
