Spacecraft designer SpaceX and billionaire Tesla founder Elon Musk declared the German student team Warrhyperloop winner of the second Hyperloop Pod Competition in Hawthorne, California, after beating their two final rivals, Sunday. The Munich University team got their pod prototype to run at the highest speed a pod has reportedly moved inside a tube, at 324 km/hour (201 miles per hour).
A... Еще concept developed by Musk in 2012, Hyperloop is a passenger transportation concept that consists of a sealed tube in which a pod would travel free of air and friction resistance. The new Hyperloop technology could slash journey times as well as prove more cost effective than high speed rail.
Musk congratulated all 27 teams participating at the competition from around the world and assured that Hyperloop is about «getting people to where they are going fast, safely, at lower cost and really opening up the world.» The business magnate recognised that the reason he loves such projects is because they make him «excited to wake up in the morning».
«There is a lot of problems in the world but if you don't have things that inspire us, what's the point of living?» he added.
The other two teams that made it into the final were the US-Canadian Paradigm and Swissloop.
