USA: Trump uses border union members in attempt to convince lawmakers to fund wall

US President Donald Trump made a surprise appearance at the White House Press Briefing on Wednesday, introducing three officials to argue in favour of a southern border wall and the ongoing government shutdown. With bipartisan negotiations stalled over the president's demand for US$5 billion dollars (€4.4 billion) to build the wall, Trump invited three officials from the National Border Patrol... Еще Council (NBPC) — a union representing border agents — to convince lawmakers to fund the project. «We ask for congressmen to fund border security and fund the border wall,» said Hector Garza, the Vice-President of the NBPC. «There's also a lot of talk on this shutdown, that federal employees do not agree with this shutdown. I will tell you, that's not true,» said NBPC President Brandon Judd despite a recent poll indicating 71 per cent of government workers oppose the shutdown. Since December 22, 420,000 government employees have been working without pay while another 380,000 are furloughed or temporarily laid off.
