USA: Trump signs exec. order to end controversial family separations

SOT, Journalist: «Why did you wait for so long to sign [inaudible]?» SOT, Donald Trump, US President: «It's been going on for 60 years. 60 years, nobody's taken care of it. Nobody's had the political courage to take care of it. But we're going to take care of it. It's been going on for a long time.» SOT, Journalist: «Did Ivanka Trump show you some photos of the children being separated from... Еще their families?» SOT, Donald Trump, US President: «No, Ivanka feels very strongly. My wife feels very strongly about it. I feel very strongly about it. I think anybody with a heart would feel very strongly about it. We don't like to see families separated. At the same time, we don't want people coming into our country illegally. This takes care of the problem. Thank you very much, everybody.» US President Donald Trump abandoned the White House's policy of separating migrant children from their families at the US-Mexico border in Washington DC on Wednesday, marking a significant policy reversal. When signing the executive order, Trump said: «You're going to have a lot of happy people.» «It's about keeping families together while at the same time, being sure that we have a very powerful, very strong border,» Trump stated. He also promised to 'get the wall done.' «Ivanka [Trump] feels very strongly. My wife [Melania Trump] feels very strongly about it. I feel very strongly about it. I think anybody with a heart would feel very strongly about it,» the President said of the family break ups. US Vice President Mike Pence claimed that 'by taking this action, the president will make it possible for us to continue to engage in enforcing the law against individuals who violate our laws, come into our country illegally.' Around 2,000 migrant children were separated from their parents between mid-April and May, because, unlike their parents, they do not faces criminal charges, which sparked condemnation from home and abroad.
