USA: Trump says no president as 'tough' on Russia

Trump said, «All you have to do is look at the numbers, look at what we've done, look at sanctions, look at ambassadors not there.» He went on to say, «I think President Putin knows that better than anybody. Certainly a lot better than the media. He understands it and he's not happy about it and he shouldn't be happy about it because there's never been a president as tough on Russia as I have been.» However, when asked by a journalist whether Russia was «still targeting» the US, Trump said, 'No.' Later, during a press briefing, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders claimed that Trump was saying 'no' to taking more questions, not to the journalist's question itself. Putin and Trump had their third meeting in Helsinki on 16 of July; the leaders' first meeting was in July 2017 on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Hamburg and in November they met at the APEC summit in Da Nang, Vietnam.
