US President Donald Trump defended the use of the anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine against COVID-19 despite warnings from health officials.
Trump was speaking at a news conference in Washington DC on Tuesday.
«Many doctors think it is extremely successful, the hydroxychloroquine coupled with the zinc and perhaps the azithromycin. But many doctors think it's extremely good and some people don't. Some people, I think it's become very political. I happen to believe in it. I would take it,» said Trump.
In June, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advised against the use of hydroxychloroquine for treatment of the coronavirus saying its side effects outweigh its possible benefits.
No evidence has been presented that the drug can help in the fight against the virus.
