USA: Trump declares opioid crisis a 'public health emergency'

US President Donald Trump declared that the opioid addiction crisis has escalated to a public health emergency at a White House address in Washington DC on Thursday. “The US is currently dealing with the worst drug crisis in American history”, Trump said before revealing that, “last year we lost at least 64,000 Americans to overdoses; that's 175 lost American lives per day, that's 7 lost lives... Еще per hour.” Trump recalled how his elder brother Fred had been a guiding light throughout his life, but was later lost to alcohol addiction. “He was a strong guy but it was a tough, tough thing he was going through. But I learned because of Fred. I learned. And that's what I think is so important», he said. Trump’s words were met with loud applause as he blamed the ongoing opioid crisis on Mexico, asserting that «for too long dangerous criminal cartels have been allowed to infiltrate and spread throughout our nation. An astonishing 90 percent of the Heroin in America comes from south of the border, where we will be building a wall which will greatly help in this problem.»
