US President Donald Trump announced a surge of federal law enforcement to the city of Chicago. The president was speaking from the White House in Washington, DC on Wednesday
«This bloodshed must end, this bloodshed will end. Today I am announcing a surge of federal law enforcement to American communities plagued by violent crime.»
«The citizens of Chicago are citizens of America and they have the same right as every other American to live in safety, dignity and peace. No mother should ever have to cradle her dead child in her arms, simply because politicians refuse to do what is necessary to secure their neighbourhood and to secure their city,» said Trump as he moves to build his election campaign around his seeming preference for law and order in comparison to Democrats.
Fifteen people were injured in a drive-by shooting in Chicago on Tuesday at a funeral for a victim of another drive-by shooting.
The drive-by shooting comes at a time when Chicago is experiencing a growing number of gun-related attacks, with the city’s official statistics showing that over 400 murders have been reported so far this year, compared to 275 reported until the same period last year.
