USA: Times Square deserted as NYC enters phase one of reopening plan

Few New Yorkers could be spotted daring the streets as the restrictions were eased, with retail businesses and other non-essential sectors allowed to restart operations. NYC remains the epicentre of the US pandemic, with more than 206,000 confirmed cases and over 21,800 deaths from COVID-19 since March. More than 1.94 million confirmed cases were reported across the US, as well as nearly 111,000 deaths related to the virus, according to Johns Hopkins University.
