Thousands showed up at US Capitol in Washington DC on Monday to pay their respects to late congressman and civil rights icon John Lewis.
Lewis' casket laid on top of Capitol's stairs for a public viewing marked by physical distancing amid the ongoing COVID pandemic.
The late congressman has reportedly become the first Black lawmaker to lie in state at the US Capitol Rotunda.
Lewis was a US Representative for Georgia's 5th congressional district and a prominent civil rights leader, who helped end racial segregation in the US. He died at the age of 80 because of pancreatic cancer on July 17.
