White House Chief of Staff John Kelly defended remarks made by US President Donald Trump to a widow of a soldier killed in Niger earlier this month, saying that «there's no perfect way to conduct that phone call,» speaking to the press in Washington DC, Thursday.
Trump came under fire after a Democratic Congresswoman had said she listened to the phone call in which Trump told the widow of the... Еще fallen soldier «he knew what he signed up for, but I guess it still hurt.»
Kelly denied the claim, saying that «[Trump] in his way tried to express that opinion: he's a brave man, a fallen hero, he knew what he was getting himself into because he enlisted.»
He followed, «it stuns me that a member of Congress would have listened in on that conversation.»
Kelly, whose son was killed in Afghanistan in 2010, mentioned that «President Obama, who was my commander in chief when I was on active duty, did not call my family,» stressing that «that was not a criticism.»
