Lead House impeachment manager Adam Schiff said US President Donald Trump's lawyers would try to make Trump's impeachment trial «endless» if Democrats tried to call witnesses for the ongoing trial in the US Senate in Washington DC on Wednesday.
When asked by US Chief Justice John Roberts how long the trial would last if it had followed rules proposed by Democratic senators, Trump's attorney Jay... Еще sekulow said, «It would take a long time. It would take a long time just to get through those motions.»
He added, «[Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer] has discussed four witnesses in particular, as if this body would, if it were to grant witnesses would say, yes, you get those four witnesses and the White House and the president's counsel. Guess what? Whatever I want. That's what he said, Mr. Schumer, whatever I want? Here's what I want. I want Adam Schiff. I want Hunter Biden. I want Joe Biden. I want I want the whistleblower. I want to also understand, there may be additional people within the House Intelligence Committee that have had conversations with that whistleblower. I get anybody we want, by the way, if we get anybody we want, we will be here for a very long time.»
Schiff responded, «I think we can all see what's going on here, and that is if the House wants to call witnesses, if you want to hear from a single witness, if you want to hear what John Bolton has to say. We are going to make this endless. We, the president's lawyers are going to make this endless.»
Trump is facing impeachment over charges of abuse of power as well as obstruction of Congress, but with a Republican majority in the Senate and a super-majority required for a conviction, the president looks set to remain in office.
