USA: Schumer and McConnell deliver final blows before impeachment vote

The leaders of Republican and Democratic caucuses in the Senate addressed the upper chamber for a final time before the all-important vote in US President Donald Trump's impeachment trial on Capitol Hill this Wednesday. Schumer outlined the «straightforward» case for impeachment, although criticised his opponent's handling of the Senate trial. «The verdict of this kangaroo court will be... Еще meaningless,» the New York Senator and House Minority Leader declared. For his part, McConnell described the process as a «partisan impeachment» that suggested Democrats were still unwilling to accept the 2016 presidential election result. Trump was later acquitted by the Senate on both articles of impeachment — abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. He will now remain in office after becoming the third president to survive an impeachment trial.
