The village of Sanford was heavily damaged by severe flooding caused by the failure of two dams in central Michigan on Wednesday.
Bridges over the Tittabawassee River collapsed as seen in footage from Thursday. Houses were also damaged by flood water, whilst infrastructure was completely left in pieces. What appeared to have been a road was completely ripped up.
After the failure of the... Еще Edenville dam, the collapse of the Sanford dam was expected due to the increased pressure caused by the additional the water and debris pressing up against it.
Around 10,000 residents were evacuated in central Michigan after heavy rainfall caused the dam to collapse, according to local reports. The state had declared Edenville dam to be in «unsatisfactory» condition.
Sanford dam and Edenville are both owned by Boyce Hydro Power LLC, which was reportedly in the process of selling the dams.
