USA: Protesters vandalise St Louis mayoral home after officer acquitted for black man's death

Protesters vandalised the home of St Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson on Friday night, following the acquittal of a white police officer in the fatal shooting of Anthony Lamar Smith. Footage from outside Krewson's house shows a crowd gathered in front of it, along with shattered windows and red paint on its facade. The protesters also reportedly erected roadblocks and clashed with police, who in turn... Еще fired teargas to disperse the protesters. At 32 people were detained and and ten officers were injured, reports say. Smith was shot dead in his car in 2011 by former St. Louis police officer Jason Stockley, in what was claimed as «self-defence.» Stockley told the court that he shot Smith believing that the 24-year-old African-American was reaching for a gun in his car. Whether or not Smith was in possession of a firearm remained the most controversial element of the case, with opponents arguing that the firearm found in Smith’s vehicle was planted by the police officer. The judges ruled that «an urban heroin dealer not in possession of a firearm would be an anomaly.»
