US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo condemned China for expelling three Wall Street Journal journalists and accused both China and Iran of «censorship,» during a statement in Washington DC on Tuesday.
“Expelling our journalists exposes once again the government's issue that led to SARs and now the coronavirus, namely censorship, it can have deadly consequences. Had China permitted its own and... Еще foreign journalists and medical personnel to speak and investigate freely, Chinese officials and other nations would have been far better prepared to address the challenge,” Pompeo said.
Pompeo further implored both China and Iran to «tell the truth about the coronavirus and cooperate with international aid organisations,» implying that they were covering up the total number of deaths and or infected cases.
Pompeo also touted the US government’s response to the coronavirus outbreak, saying that the US’s first priority is to protect the homeland. We've imposed prudent travel restrictions and strong travel advisories to slow the spread of the virus to the United States. All known American carriers of the coronavirus are in isolation and treatment. And healthy travellers who travelled from high risk locations, namely Hubei Province and the Diamond Princess cruise ship, were placed in mandatory quarantine upon return to the United States.»
