Tensions continued to rise at the Venezuelan embassy in Washington DC on Saturday as Pro-Guaido and ‘Hands off Venezuela’ protesters gathered in front of the building, while left-wing activists occupy the embassy to prevent the US government from handing it over to Guaido representatives.
«We want our embassy to be for the Venezuelan people, we want Code Pink, who’s a group of Americans, an NGO... Еще, as well as its affiliates, to get out of our embassy and return it to the Venezuelan people,» said Dilianna Bustillos Vivas, a Venezuelan-American who can be seen blocking activists from delivering food to the groups occupying the embassy.
Footage shows ‘Hands off Venezuela’ protesters, who oppose regime change in Venezuela, chanting outside the embassy, as well as supporters of Venezuelan Opposition Leader Juan Guaido holding signs.
Co-founder of pacifist NGO Code Pink Medea Benjamin said «these opponents here, who have no power inside Venezuela, who were not able to carry out the coup, even with the largest power in the world, the United States, helping them, now want to take over this building totally illegally.»
Venezuela has been in political crisis since January 23, when opposition leader Juan Guaido declared himself president in a move now recognized by over 50 countries including the United States the European Union.
