Protesters gathered outside the New York Police Department headquarters on Wednesday to support the relatives of Eric Garner, a black man who died after an officer put him in a chokehold in 2014. Daniel Pantaleo, the officer involved in the incident appeared before the NYPD disciplinary trial which is approaching its end.
Pantaleo's attorney said that the officer will not testify in his own... Еще defence. A transcript of his conversations with police investigators will be read in court instead.
«We fought hard, I fought hard with all of these communities, these committees, to get this trial and now at the end of it we may not even know what the end result is», said mother of Eric Garner Gwen Carr.
During Wednesday's session a retired sergeant who trained Pantaleo at police academy testified for his defence. He said Pantaleo used a maneuver approved by NYPD. The department refused to indict the officer on criminal charges. If found guilty, Pantaleo could be fired.
