USA: Merkel and Trump address trade surplus, defence spending in DC

«It is essential that our NATO allies increase their financial contributions so that everyone is paying their fair share,» US President Donald Trump said during a press conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Washington DC on Friday. Merkel meanwhile said Germany will ensure a share of 1.3 percent of its GDP on defence in 2019. «We haven't yet met the target where we should be, but... Еще we are getting closer to it,» she said. The German chancellor also promised to reduce Germany's trade surplus with the US, saying German companies are also interested in investing in the US. Both commented positively on Friday's meeting between the leaders of North and South Korea. «We Germany know too well what it means after years of separation to have these first contacts,» Merkel said.
