USA: Long queues form as early voting kicks off in Texas

Early voting began in Texas on Tuesday, with several voters seen queuing to cast their ballot in the town of Carrollton, some 24 km (15 miles) northwest of Dallas. Voters were seen queuing outside the city's public library, with signs in English and Spanish giving information as to where to go. «I just wanted to get in to vote early, not having to do mail in ballots,» said voter Benjamin Khron. «People have three more weeks to vote but I'm glad to see that they are like 'no, I'm going to get in my vote in today,'» said Carrollton mayor Kevin Falconer. «I would say this is the most important election we've ever had because it's comprehensive, it goes all the way from top to bottom.» According to reports, a large voter turnout is expected in Texas as voter registration has soared from previous levels with this year's election looming. State Democrats attempted to expand mail-in ballots, but Republican Governor Greg Abbott limited the number of mail-in drop off locations to one per county, and instead expanded early voting.
