California Governor Gavin Newsom ordered on Sunday bars and nightspots to close in seven counties, including Los Angeles, and recommended closures in eight other counties amid the spike in coronavirus cases in the whole state.
Several bars on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles were seen preparing for closure and already offering takeaway service.
Newsom’s order shuts down all bars, breweries and pubs that sell alcoholic drinks without serving food at the same time.
The move followed a similar decision in Texas and Florida on Friday, as US health officials have recognised bars as the riskiest non-essential businesses currently open.
Many LA bar owners said that despite the fact the governor's decision will affect their businesses, many still respect the move calling it «smart.»
The United States surpassed 2,5 million confirmed COVID cases with more than 217,000 cases in the state of California and over 5,905 deaths related to the virus.
