USA: Former Peruvian President Toledo denied bail by US judge

A US judge denied bail for former Peruvian President Alejandro Toledo in San Francisco on Friday, after prosecutors argued him to be a flight risk and detailed that officials found a suitcase with $40,000 (35,607 EUR) in cash in his home during his arrest. US Magistrate Judge Thomas Hixson ruled that Toledo, arrested earlier this week near his home in San Mateo, California, should be held in jail... Еще during extradition proceedings. Peruvian nationals cheered the judge's decision outside of San Francisco's Federal Courthouse, and expressed hope that Toledo will be extradited to his home country. Peru wants Toledo — who was president from 2001 to 2006 — to be extradited from the United States to stand trial for allegedly taking over $20 million (€18 million) from Brazilian construction company Odebrecht.
