House Democrats announced that the first public hearings would be held next week, with David Hale, the State Department's third-ranking official, testifying privately at the Capitol on Wednesday.
«We are getting an increasing appreciation for just what took place during the course of the last year and the degree to which the president enlisted whole departments of government in the illicit aim of trying to get Ukraine to dig up dirt on a political opponent,» said Adam Schiff.
Meanwhile Congressman Jim Jordan defended the President, saying several testimonies, including from Ambassador Volker, special envoy to Ukraine, said there was «no quid pro quo».
The investigation was sparked by an official complaint from a whistleblower over a 25 July phone call where Trump asked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate the son of political rival Joe Biden.
