Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and US Senator Tom Udall commented on the third day of the impeachment trial against US President Donald Trump, while briefing the press in Washington DC on Thursday.
New Mexico Democratic Senator Udall accused Trump of «gloating» about withholding documents from Congress when, speaking from Davos on Wednesday, he said «we have all the material and they don't... Еще.»
«Here he is gloating, gloating over the fact that he has the documents, he's not turned them over to Congress, he's violated that special relationship — Article 1, Article 2 — where Congress is supposed to be able to subpoena documents,» Udall said.
Schumer criticised Senate Republicans for voting on party lines Tuesday to block Democrat efforts to subpoena government documents and records.
«The same Republicans saying they 'heard nothing new' just voted nine times on Tuesday to hear nothing new,» Schumer said.
«Manager after manager stepped up to lay out the evidence ammassed against the president in precise and devastating detail. The atmosphere of the Senate took on an entirely different dimension,» Schumer said. «It might have been the first time that many of my Republican colleagues heard the full story, the complete narrative from start to finish, uninterrupted and not filtered through the kaleidoscope lens of Fox News.»
Trump is facing impeachment over charges of abuse of power as well as obstruction of Congress, but with a Republican majority in the Senate and a super-majority required for a conviction, the president looks set to remain in office.
