USA: Democratic presidential candidates vie for attention at Iowa State Fair

Democratic presidential candidates were competing for the attention of locals at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines on Friday. Standing on a purposefully-erected political soapbox, US former housing secretary Julian Castro commented on the recent mass arrests of undocumented migrants in Mississipi. «People need to know what businesses in that city that are profiting off of the backs of Hispanic... Еще customers are turning around and putting that money into the pockets of a politician in Donald Trump,» he told the crowd. Entrepreneur and philanthropist Andrew Yang added to the chorus of condemnation against Trump's rhetoric towards migrants, categorising him as a «white supremacist». In her speech, Hawaii Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard criticised US foreign policy in the Middle East since 9/11. The upcoming Iowa caucuses are widely viewed as being the first major contest of the US presidential primary season.
