Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang hosted a rally at Washington Square Park in New York on Tuesday, before thousands of supporters.
Yang, who is often placed among the the lesser-known Democratic candidates, said that his proposed universal basic income payment, dubbed 'Freedom Dividend', could create new jobs.
«This is the freedom dividend and this is what we must make real to help... Еще us transition to an economy that works for people in the age of machines. And we can't stop there. We need to get healthcare off the backs of American families and businesses,» he told supporters.
Yang explained that the Freedom Dividend would be funded through implementing higher taxation on tech giants like Amazon, which he claimed was responsible for the retail store closures across the country.
The businessman launched his presidential campaign in November 2017 and recently qualified for the first Democratic debate in June.
