Democratic Adam Schiff spoke for two hours straight in the US Senate on Wednesday afternoon, as opening arguments at the impeachment trial of President Donald Trump got underway.
Schiff called for a «fair trial» from the Republican-controlled Senate, nothing that these are «politically charged times.»
He went on to set out the case for impeachment, detailing the circumstances around the now... Еще-infamous July 25 phone call to Volodymyr Zelenskiy.
The House Intelligence Committee chair led the initial investigation into charges of misconduct and soliciting foreign interference in elections, both impeachable offences. He was named as Lead Impeachment Manager by political ally and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi earlier this month.
It is widely expected that Trump will not be impeached, given that the required super-majority would need several votes from Republicans.
