Dozens of protesters and Indigenous demonstrators gathered in downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Wednesday to hold a rally dubbed «Defend the Water,» as US President Donald Trump was in town to speak at the Shale Insight conference.
Footage shows Indigenous demonstrators drumming and dancing outside the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, where the Shale Insight conference was taking place... Еще.
«People like him, with money, with resources, they can kind of do whatever they want, they can step on the little people if they feel like it. He believes strongly in money, whereas we believe strongly in the ability for us to survive off of our environment,» said Indigenous protester from the Cattaraugus Indian reservation from the Seneca Nation tribe Elissa Parker.
According to reports, the main topic of discussion at both the conference and the Defend the Water rally is the Royal Dutch Shell ethane cracker plant under construction in Beaver country. While location politicians have praised the plant as an economic lifeline to the community, it has drawn criticism from environmental groups.
