USA: Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez campaigns on the streets during primary vote

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took to the streets of New York City on Tuesday to help campaign during the state's primary elections, beating Democratic challenger Michelle Caruso-Cabrera in the process. «It's so important that our community sees us, and feels us, and sees us personally organising around in the community, hearing people's issues and what it is that we need to be responsive to,» said Ocasio-Cortez, who spent the day handing out fliers with canvassers and posing for selfies. According to the most recent counts, the congresswoman leads her opponent with close to 73 per cent of the vote. Ocasio-Cortez has been the incumbent of the state's 14th Congressional seat since 2018, and will be seeking re-election for a second term. She is due to face retired police officer John Cummings, who won the Republican primary, in the final contest in November.
