USA: Congress members arrive at Capitol Hill to debate police reform bill

Democratic Party members of the House Judiciary Committee arrived at the Capitol in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday to hold a markup of a newly introduced police reform bill. Committee chair Jerry Nadler, along with Congress members Hank Johnson, Hakeem Jeffries, Steve Cohen, and Sheila Jackson Lee were all seen emerging from their cars prior to entering the Capitol Building. Police reform has become a priority in the wake of George Floyd's killing by law enforcement in Minneapolis, which sparked mass protests against police brutality and racial injustice. The Republican-controlled Senate unveiled its own bill on Wednesday featuring key differences with the lower body legislature, most notably on the issue of «qualified immunity,» and Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has already voiced his disapproval of the House proposal.
