USA: Colourful fireworks light up night sky as 'buck moon' glows above DC

Firework lit up the sky against the backdrop of the July full moon in Washington D.C., to mark Independence Day, on Saturday. The full moon, also known as the 'buck moon' in the US, was dazzling in the skies above the capital. The phenomenon occurs when the moon is located on the opposite side of Earth to the sun. The full moon is the first of the summer and was named 'buck' as early summer is normally the time when the new antlers of buck deer push out of their foreheads in coatings of velvety fur.
