St Louis residents cleaned up storefronts in the city, Saturday night, in the aftermath of violent protests sparked by the acquittal of a police officer in the fatal shooting of Anthony Lamar Smith. Earlier in the day, the home of St Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson was vandalised, with several windows being reportedly shattered by protesters. The protesters also reportedly erected roadblocks and clashed... Еще with police, who in turn fired tear gas to disperse the protesters. At least 32 people were detained and ten officers were injured, reports say. Former St. Louis police officer Jason Stockley shot Smith to death in 2011, in what he claims was self-defence, believing that the 24-year-old African-American was reaching for a gun in his car. Whether Smith was in possession of a firearm remained the most controversial element of the case, with opponents arguing that the firearm found in Smith's vehicle was planted by the policeman in the aftermath of the shooting. The judges ruled that «an urban heroin dealer not in possession of a firearm would be an anomaly».
