Violent clashes between Black Lives Matter demonstrators and federal forces continued into the early hours of Thursday morning in Portland.
Police used tear gas on protesters and made arrests after an initial standoff in the streets turned violent.
The protest took place as a «phased withdrawal» of federal agents from Portland's downtown area was announced. It is expected to take place gradually starting on Thursday.
Portland has seen over two months of protests, which started in late May following the death of George Floyd and gained traction over the past few days as federal officers were deployed in the area, sparking renewed tensions.
