Crowds gathered to listen to a reading of the US Declaration of Independence in front of the Old State House in Boston, on Saturday, after protesters organised their own event as official celebrations were cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak.
The participants held US flags and sang the national anthem. Some attended holding placards in support of US President Donald Trump.
As a result of the coronavirus pandemic celebrations marking Independence Day were cancelled. Organiser of the event and Pastor Garrett Lear said «We decided that its important for us, as American citizens, as American people of all races colours and creeds, politics, to come together and celebrate what makes us one people.»
Among the crowd was a Republican congressional candidate for MA District 7 Rayla Campbell who said, «Now it's time to get out and open up and I think the people of Massachusetts are tired and they really want to celebrate and do what we do best.»
