A 'Black Lives Matter' protest as well as a women's empowerment march, with a special focus on black women's lives, were held on the island of Manhattan, New York City, on Friday.
Protesters taking a stand against racism and police brutality, as well as demanding justice for George Floyd, were seen chanting and marching through the streets of the Big Apple. Signs reading 'Disarm, defund, dismantle,' 'Abolish police, all power to the people' in addition to ones stating, 'We will never stop fighting for black women' were spotted at the demo.
According to reports, the march, started at Trump Tower before the group made their way through the Upper East Side, reportedly stopping at 66th Street to observe a moment of silence.
Protests sparked by Floyd's death have been taking place across the US and around the world, after the 46-year-old black ma was killed during his arrest in Minneapolis on May 25.
