US billionaire and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein pleaded not guilty to charges of sex trafficking at the Manhattan federal courthouse in New York City on Monday, following his arrest on Saturday night at the Teterboro Airport in New Jersey.
Federal prosecutors unsealed a criminal indictment according to which Epstein allegedly sexually exploited and abused dozens of minor girls from 2002... Еще to 2005 at his homes in Manhattan and Palm Beach, Florida.
The proceedings were attended by two of the accusers who refused to answer questions from the media. However, prosecuting attorney Sigrid McCawley shared a few words saying that «It is time for Jeffrey Epstein, and those who participated in these times to be brought to justice.»
McCawley went on to quote a victim during her statement, Sarah Ransome, who said «the news of my abuser's arrest today is a step in the right direction to finally hold Epstein accountable for his crimes, and restore my faith that power and money can't triumph over justice.»
Epstein was ordered held without bail until at least his bail plea hearing on July 15.
In a 2008 case on related charges, Epstein reached a deal with prosecutors that involved him pleading guilty to state charges of soliciting prostitution from underage girls, for which he served 13 months in jail and registered as a sex offender for life.
