Army Lt. Gen. Stephen J. Townsend, commander of Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve confirmed that there was no confirmation that leader of Islamic State (formerly IS;ISIS/ISIL) Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is dead. He was speaking to Pentagon journalists in Washington DC from Baghdad, on Thursday.
Speaking about the possibility of capturing the IS leader, he said, «I would be happy to... Еще capture Baghdadi, I don't know who would not. I think, I would be just as equally satisfied just killing him. And if he is alive out there somewhere, we are looking for him every day».
Townsend reported his suspicion that Baghdadi was most likely in the Eurphrates River Valley, and not in one of the cities where there is an IS presence. He said, «I think he is somewhere in Iraq and Syria. I think he is probably somewhere in the middle of the Euphrates river valley.» He then went on to state his belief that «the last stand of ISIS would be in the middle of Euphrates river valley.»
