New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio confirmed a failed bombing near the Port Authority bus terminal was an attempted terror attack, during a press conference in New York City on Monday. De Blasio assured that there were no other threats against New York City at the moment. NYPD Commissioner James O'Neill identified the suspect as 27 year old Akayed Ullah, who was found on the scene wearing an... Еще improvised low-tech explosive device. Ullah was placed in custody and taken to Bellevue Hospital with serious injuries. Three other people sustained minor injuries as a result of the explosion, said Fire Department Commissioner Daniel Nigro. NYPD Deputy Counter-terrorism Commissioner John Miller said the explosive device was a pipe bomb attached to the suspect's body with Velcro and zip ties. A joint NYPD-FBI investigation on the device was said to be underway. O'Neill stressed the security of New York City's transit system, by saying that over 3,000 police personnel patrol the network every day. Regarding relations between the suspect and the so-called Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL), O'Neill said the suspect «did make statements,» before adding that more information would not be disclosed yet. Monday's explosion occurred through the passageway connecting the Times Square and Port Authority subway stations shortly before 7:30 am local time.
